Apple Website Redesign Coming Soon?

UPDATE (3/12): So here's the actual results! There wasn't really any major redesign. There are now eight menu bar buttons on apple.com opposed to the previous seven. iPad is its own button and iTunes finally separated from iPod as its own button. The Downloads button, as someone said in the comments below, is missing in action for now. Also, on the Store page, the iPad is there. But guess what's missing? The Apple TV! It has been moved down as an ACCESSORY for the iPod. (see photo on right) So I guess that's Apple's way of admitting the Apple TV was somewhat of a bust. But it's still there, so that's something!

I feel like this is one of those things where I suggest a big event to happen because there's no other solution, and then someone comes along with a quick and easy solution and I feel stupid. Anyways, here it goes. If you notice apple.com, you'll see that the iPad hogs the home page. You'll also notice that there's no specific navigation button at the top for the iPad. And if you think about it, there really isn't anymore room for an addition button.

If you also visit apple.com/store or click Store on the site, in the full list of products, it doesn't appear that there will be enough room for an iPad to be there either. So this leads me to the question, where will the iPad go on Apple's website? It can't stay on the home page forever. Yes, you may think they could just thin out the navigation buttons and the product images to make room, but I don't really think that's going to be the case. Another case would be that iPad go under the category of an iPhone or Mac, but it seems that Apple is really trying to market this product in its own category.

We may see an apple.com redesign soon, that is my guess. Apple doesn't really redesign their website often, unlike a lot of other popular websites like Facebook and even the Microsoft Windows website gets a redesign here and there. Apple.com's interface stays to match the interface of Mac OS X. While in a redesign, they will probably stick with it, but I think it will be exciting to see Apple shake things up a bit.

Because IPad is their version of the new kid on the block it will most likely stay where it's at till they come up with something new. And if Mac is smart, maybe a new look and some new eye candy is just what they need to get back to the top. Until they get their act together Windows 7 looks good up there in my eyes!

The new iPad icon is up on the navigation bar and iTunes is now separated from iPod. The Downloads icon is now MIA.

I found the first great site that talks about how to make an iPad website. it gives detailed information about viewports, flash image swap, and lightview popup.
