AT&T Raises Early Termination Fees for Smartphones
According to All Things Digital, AT&T will nearly double their current early termination fees for smartphones starting on June 1st including the popular iPhone. Current early termination fees are $175 and the new expected price is to be $325, which I'd like to point out is still cheaper than Verizon's $350. So the question comes about: why? Why are you raising these prices on us AT&T? Could it be just because you know Verizon was double your previous ETF and you had room for increase without being more expensive? It's possible. But there's also a more logical, and I might add, juicier reason AT&T could be raising ETFs.
After the recent report that Apple ordered millions of Verizon-compatible iPhones, does it have AT&T running scared? June 1st is also one week before WWDC 2010 where Apple is expected to unveil this year's fourth-generation iPhone. Rumors have surfaced that Verizon may be getting the iPhone this September, which would mean a five-year contract between Apple and AT&T was cut short.
Any thoughts?
