You may recall my article back in the beginning of April that explained my predictions on what was coming in Apple's iPhone OS 4 preview keynote. For the most part, it was fairly accurate. Now it's time for the big event, World Wide Developers Conference coming in just eight short days. As I did last time, I will use from one to five stars to explain the likeliness and unlikeliness that a specific product or feature will be announced. Here we go.
Don't forget, join Bitts during the WWDC keynote for a live reporting of everything announced as well as some informal discussion on the whole event. That's Monday, June 7th at 1pm ET. Click here for more information or to set a reminder.
New iPhone with Front Camera and 960x640 Display - ★★★★★
This is pretty much a given. For the past two years, Apple has announced their new iPhone at WWDC and this year with stakes high because of Android's heavy competition, Apple's expected to follow in their tradition and deliver a brand new, over-the-top iPhone possibly by the name of iPhone HD?
More Details on iPhone OS 4 - ★★★★★
Apple unveiled at the iPhone OS 4 event mainly seven "tentpoles" as the seven main new features coming in iPhone OS 4.0. In recent betas, some new features unannounced such as AT&T tethering and a rotation lock hint at a few more things to say on the subject of new software. It's also expected that Apple will describe the details for the iPad's upgrade to OS 4 coming this fall.
New Macs - ★★★
Last year at WWDC before the iPhone 3GS was announced, Phil Schiller had some announcements for a new 15" MacBook Pro. While it's certainly possible again this year, there hasn't been much speculation about it. iPhone seemed to hog the limelight this year.
Plans for iTunes.com - ★★★
After acquiring Lala, an online music store, and forcing it to be shut down tomorrow, May 31st, rumors came about that Apple would be introducing an online version of iTunes that would possibly have cloud-based storage as well. That's really the only support behind this rumor, so we'll leave it at three stars for now.
Verizon iPhone - ★★
It's not looking likely. There's a lot of confusion about the Verizon iPhone situation. Rumors swirled about the possibility of this year finally being the year Apple would sell the iPhone on Verizon sometime in September, but five year contract signed back in 2007 was revealed, putting the Verizon iPhone sometime in 2012. Time will tell, but many doubt that it will be announced at WWDC.
Steve Jobs Wearing a Blue Shirt and Black Pants - ★
Sorry folks, I don't think so. I wouldn't really expect it next year either.
