Google to Launch "Google Me" Social Network
A little bit of speculation churned up last night about the possibility that Google may be about to launch a Facebook-killing social network. Of course, they already have Orkut, which is more well known in other countries but certainly not in the USA. One may think Google's attempt at a social network in the U.S. was Google Buzz but I think we can all agree that Buzz failed. Some still use it, but for the most part people just didn't need an additional social network, not to mention it only worked with people who had Gmail. So, with all that kept in mind, where did the theory of "Google Me" come from?
It turns out this is being highly speculated by none other than Kevin Rose, founder and CEO of Digg. He suspects that Google Me will be a social profile service that will directly compete with Facebook. The CEO tweeted yesterday the following:
And there you have it. It's unclear who that credible source is but it's a good guess he clearly has some eyes on the inside of Google, especially if this rumor proves to be true. Others think it may just be an upgrade to Google's current Google Profiles service. Either way, we'll find out shortly.
