Verizon Announces the Motorola Droid X

Today at a press conference in New York, Verizon finally confirmed the rumored sequel to the Motorola Droid, the Motorola Droid X. Now some people may think the sequel was the Droid Incredible, but that was made by HTC. They seem to be doing a very odd sequence to the order of announcements on stage, starting out by seemingly assuming everyone knew about the Droid X and jumping right into the fact that it has a 4.3" multi-touch display that's perfect for video. They are announcing a partnership with Blockbuster to rent and buy movies on the device.

Camera & Internals - The Droid X features an 8MP camera that also shoots in 720p HD video on the back along with an HDMI port. There's a 1GHz OMAP processor on the inside with 8GB of memory and a 16GB card included. The memory can be expanded to 40GB with a 32GB card. Verizon also slapped Apple with a "people choose bigger screen over higher resolution" statement referring to the iPhone 4's retina display. In my opinion, that's not always the case...

WiFi - Also, the Droid X finally has a multi-touch keyboard and the ability to create a WiFi hotspot from your phone and the ability to connect 5 other phones/computers to the device (compared to EVO's ability to connect 8).

Call Quality - Droid X will apparently feature "high performance diversity antennas". The bigger the words, the more intelligent they sound, eh?

Android 2.2 & Flash 10.1 - Neither will be on the Droid X at the initial launch, but it will be coming later this summer. The Droid X will run Android 2.1 at launch with the Motoblur UI, but a Verizon representative notes the Motoblur will be more subtle this time around.

Battery Life - Battery life will be the same as the original Droid, even with the bigger display.

Pricing & Availability - Available July 15th on Verizon Wireless for $199.99 after a $100 rebate (damn rebates) along with $30 smartphone service and additional fees for the WiFi hotspot.

Well there you have it, folks. That is the Droid X. Sanjay Jha did note that while the Droid X is only for Verizon in the US, there may be a similar device in the rest of the world. Am I the only one that seems underwhelmed about this whole thing?
