AT&T Gets First High-End Android Smartphone, Samsung Captivate

AT&T this year is finally doing a great roll out of its first Android smartphones. They started off with the middle class Motorola Backflip as well as the newer middle class HTC Aria, but still lacked a high end smartphone to really compete with the iPhone, known to be AT&T's signature phone... for now.

The Samsung Captivate will add a compelling Android 2.1 smartphone into the mix. It features a 4" Super AMOLED Display (most likely 800x480), a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, 16GB built in storage with expansion options that can push it up to 32GB total, and Wireless-N WiFi. It also features Swype technology built into the keyboard for a new way to type by dragging your finger across each letter.

The smartphone will be available on AT&T for $199 with a two-year contract starting July 18th. Finally, iPhone haters have a pretty worthy option on AT&T for a smartphone. Although, it's probably a safe bet that most iPhone haters won't be shopping on AT&T anyway.
