Facebook's Growth Has Nearly Halted Due to Privacy Concerns
Researchers from Inside Facebook are reporting that in June, Facebook's growth seems to have virtually stalled compared to other months and they can't help but point out that a number of publicized privacy concerns could be the cause. Facebook only picked up 320,000 new users last month and while that's a great number, it's nothing compared to May when Facebook picked up an incredible 7.8 million new users.
This graph shows the growth of Facebook last month broken down by age group. It seems has though most of the teens and tweens are hopping on the Facebook bandwagon while most of the twenty-somethings are hopping right off. Could it be that the privacy-conscious folks are making their impact on Facebook? Keep in mind that a stall in growth could simply be a mere coincedence or the fact that Facebook, with over 400 million active users, has simply hit a growth limit where everyone that wanted to join has joined already. However, 320,000 users is only 4.1% of the number of users in May, so it's definitely a significant drop worth questioning.
