Called It! Firefox 4 Delayed Until 2011

Am I good or what? I called this back in May when Firefox 4 details were just surfacing. I specifically said:

Mozilla also has a planned beta release with frequent updates starting in June, with an RC and final release sometime in November 2010. Since Mozilla had a ridiculously well-known reputation for delaying products, I'd expect a final release in Q1 2011.

Mike Beltzner, part of the Firefox 4 project, wrote yesterday about an updated beta schedule saying:

Completing this work is taking longer than initial estimates indicated as we track down regressions and sources of instability. As part of our commitment to beta users, we will not ship software before it is ready.

Sorry, Mike. I'm not buying it. Mozilla always does this. They've delayed almost every release of Firefox for as far as I can remember and they still aren't getting their estimates right. In my opinion, Firefox is no longer the great browser it used to be. Google Chrome pumps out a new version every six weeks and Mozilla can't handle one every two years or so? Now if you push Firefox to early 2011, it's actually almost three years since the release of 3.0. Let's get it together, Mozilla.
