Facebook to Launch Facial Recognition in Photos

Facebook wrote up a blog post today explaining that they plan to launch a new feature to Photos within the next few weeks that's long overdue, but still a very welcome addition. It's called "tag suggestions". Tag suggestions will intelligently group together photos with similar faces in them and suggest the name of the person in those particular photos to be tagged in all of them. Of course you can change this and put in your own tags, but this is definitely a convenient feature for people uploading tons of photos all with the same people in them.

This feature can be disabled in your privacy settings if you wish, in which case your name would not be suggested in friends' tag suggestions. However, you will still be able to be tagged manually by friends.

Again, tag suggestions will begin rolling out over the course of the next few weeks in the United States and will most likely begin in other countries around the world shortly after that.
