Facebook Beefs Up Security Features, Introduces Social Authentication
Facebook announced today two great new features that will enhance security throughout the site. First is HTTPS. Starting today, you can go into your account settings and choose to browse Facebook using a secure connection (HTTPS) site-wide. You can also choose whether or not you want to be notified when your account is being logged into from a different computer or mobile device than usual.
The next great feature finally rids us of our CAPTCHA woes. Security engineer Alex Rice writes:
Instead of showing you a traditional captcha on Facebook, one of the ways we may help verify your identity is through social authentication. We will show you a few pictures of your friends and ask you to name the person in those photos. Hackers halfway across the world might know your password, but they don't know who your friends are.
Why did nobody come up with this a long time ago? I think we can all thank Facebook for this one. These new security features will be rolling out soon.
