According to CNET, Facebook is preparing to launch a third-party commenting system for developers to add to websites. This will be meant to compete at current options such as Disqus (see below this article) or IntenseDebate. Users will be able to log into the commenting system using Facebook Connect or their Twitter account. You'll also be able to like individual comments and most likely like that web page.

Facebook currently has a similar version of this rumored commenting system on the official Facebook Blog. The design of the system has been changed recently and the rumors now more accurately describe this particular system. It's possible that this exact system will be the same commenting system introduced in a few weeks for developers to add to websites. This originally sparked speculation back in October of 2010.

Facebook is known to roll out features very quickly on the site. In just a few months they launched Facebook Places, the new Groups, the new Photos, and the new Messages. Comments could be a step out into the third-party world. If so, Disqus will have some major competition heading its way.
