Sony Unveils a Whole New World of 3D Cameras and Laptops #CES
At Sony's CES keynote event tonight, Sony announced so many new products in such a short amount of time that my head is still spinning. Bare with me as I try to get through the most prominent of these announcements.
I think what stood out the most at the event was not the televisions, because 3D televisions have already made their way into the market. Sony announced new 3D cameras, camcorders, and laptops. The Sony VAIO F series laptop will be an entertainment laptop that will feature a 3D screen to view Blu-ray movies in real 3D along with a button on the laptop that can convert 2D movies to 3D in real time.
Next was the camcorders. Sony unveiled a brand new 3D Handycam camcorder with two lenses on the front to take full 1080p HD 3D video. Oh, and that full HD is at 60fps too. It's very impressive, but very pricey at $1500. On the lower end of things, Sony managed to squeeze in all that same technology into one of their Bloggie Touch camcorders. Bloggie will be getting a 3D makeover in 2011 for just $250.
Finally, we come to their new line of Cyber-shot cameras. This is most disappointing to me seeing that as of just recently, I am the owner of a Sony Cyber-shot WX5 3D camera for $300. Sure enough, the WX9 has arrived! It will feature a large 16.2MP Exmor-R sensor for astounding low-light photos, a 3.0" screen, smooth 1080p/60i video, and all the other goodies for just $220. That's amazingly affordable. It makes me wonder how shitty the photo quality will end up being.
Sony has managed to really step up their game this year at CES, but the hype is far from over.
