Facebook Questions Finally Gets Rolled Out to Everyone
Today Facebook announced that they will finally be rolling out the Facebook Questions service, something they began way back in July and have since been testing with a very small number of users. It originally started out as a public Q&A like Yahoo! Answers or Answers.com, but as part of the roll out announcement, Facebook also said that they it's been completely revamped.
Now, Questions will be aimed at finding out information from your friends instead of everyone on the web. Adrian Graham writes about the test period:
We noticed that people were frequently asking for opinions ("what are your favorite restaurants in New York?") or hoping to learn about their friends ("what was your favorite movie as a kid, something you watched over and over?"). For most of these questions, experts weren't going to be the best source for advice. The answers to these questions are meaningful or interesting because you know your friends and your friends know you.
You'll be able to ask a question and broadcast it to your friends, almost like a poll. They can choose an answer or put in their own. Plus, if a friend answers the question, all of their friends will be able to as well. One would assume this is going to be an option in the privacy settings.
The roll out is beginning today to everyone on Facebook and by previous standards, it should take a few weeks. Facebook is letting anyone opt in to the service immediately if they want to right here.
