Twitter Adds HTTPS Option to Improve Account Security
Twitter took to their blog yesterday to announce a small, but very useful new feature in the Twitter Settings. That is the ability to use HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) at all times while browsing on the web version of Twitter (more on that below). This will protect information sent to Twitter and back over unsecured internet connections, thus enhancing the security of your account. Twitter also points out that regardless of whether or not this option is turned on in the settings, HTTPS is always used when logging in to keep your password safe and on the official iPhone and iPad apps.
Twitter did say though that this feature does not yet apply to using http://mobile.twitter.com, but that feature is on the to-do list. Even further into the future, they plan to make HTTPS the default way to browse Twitter.
Back in January, Facebook announced their HTTPS option in the settings for security purposes. With Twitter now taking this approach, it seems the new trend on the web will be beefing up security.
