Google to Launch High Speed Network

Google to Launch High Speed Network

Google has just announced plans to create their very own majorly high speed network using fiber optic technology, making a major leap into the internet service provider business like AT&T, Comcast, and others. They are working with governments to get their speedy broadband into communities starting with 50,000 people and working their way up to 500,000.

The speed of their internet access would be 100x faster than average speeds in the United States, with up to 1 gigabit per second--incredible. Google also claims to have competitive prices set.

Right now, they are accepting applications on their website from government or community enthusiasts that fill out a survey as to why their community should receive the trial in testing along with other questions. The video is below.

Just as a note, the video noted that the transfer speed would be approx 1Gbps (gigabit), not GB/sec(gigabyte per second).

Data transfer is almost always expressed in bits/sec and storage amount is in bytes. 8bits = 1 byte, so 1GB/sec would be 8x's faster than 1Gbps

Thank you for that, my mistake. Something seemed way too extreme about gigabyte per second!
