MWC: Microsoft Unveils Windows Phone 7 Series
BREAKING: Microsoft just unveiled at MWC 2010 in Barcelona its Windows Phone 7 Series (previously titled Windows Mobile). This big mobile OS update has probably been one of the most anticipated software updates for quite some time, I would even say more than Android 2.0 was.
So what's so great? Windows Phone 7 has a completely revamped user interface that looks a lot like a Zune HD, and since the Zune HD is so widely praised for its elegant interface, Windows Phone 7 phones won't disappoint. Plus, speaking of Zune, Windows Phone 7 is a Zune! Well, Microsoft said that every Windows Phone 7 Series mobile device will have features of a Zune to listen to music and watch videos! You can also sync your Windows Phone 7.0 phone with the Zune software to keep all your media synced up.XBox Live games are also even integrated right into the phone! You can play games with friends right from your phone on your XBox Live account.
As for social features, Windows Phone 7 Series integrates Facebook, Twitter, Windows Live and others. You can get live updates right from the start of the phone pushed directly to you. Plus, you can post a status update that will broadcast to all your services at once. There's even a Microsoft Office hub, which is looking really spiffy. This allows you to use the mobile versions of Office right on your phone--which was possible in Windows Mobile 6.1+--but this is a much improved experience.
Watch the detailed, but brief demo below. So far, Windows Phone 7 Series is showing itself to be a fairly worthy competitor to other mobile phone operating systems. The OS will hit mobile phones before the end of the year.
