Facebook SCAM: "I LOL'D When I Saw..."
The irony of this is I just got through posting the top eight endless Facebook scams about two weeks ago, and here we are with a fresh new scam that seems to be sweeping all of Facebook. It's the "I LOL'D When I Saw..." fan page scam.
Here's how it works. Let's say the title is "I LOL'D When I Saw Lady GaGa When She Was Little." You click the page and it says you MUST become a fan to actually see it. Then when you become a fan, it's simply a nice picture of her as a child, with no laughs whatsoever. Occasionally they aren't a scam and sometimes a picture is funny, but this is usually the result. Point of this? To get a bunch of fans of a certain page for no reason. Nice. Plus, people either don't know how or are too lazy to remove themselves from a fan page, which can be done by clicking the link to do at the bottom of the left sidebar.
Oh, but that is only the first scenario. What happens when you click a fan page that says Become a Fan, and then when you Become a Fan, you have but another task. You must click the link provided to see the mysterious whatsamajipsy photo. That link leads to a survey that you must take, or a promotional offer you must complete before you see the photo. I've never completed one myself so I don't know if there really is a decent picture at the end, but all signs point to no.
So, this is what we have to deal with folks. The temptation of becoming a fan of certain things just to see odd pictures. Let's face it, it's slightly tempting. But beware of not-so-funny pictures or even worse, surveys and offers. Just ignore the temptations and become a fan of Betty White getting on SNL instead.
