Google Officially Shuts Down in China

Google Search, as promised, has officially shut down in China. Google officially announced it on their blog, and if you go to google.cn, the China website automatically redirects to google.com.hk which is Google Search for Hong Kong.

Google said today that they are officially stopping censoring on their search results for China, so there is no more Google in China. China users can still use the Hong Kong site though to search freely without any censors in Simplified Chinese. Google also realizes that at any time, the Chinese government could block access to the Google Hong Kong site on the internet in China, so Google created a website to let people know which Google services in China are blocked and which are available.

The decision to block Google Search completely in China will be completely up to their government. The whole feud began a few months ago when Google announced that it would no longer censor search results in China because they believed that users should freely access the internet, and they were aware that China may have something to say about that and even force them to remove their service in China. Of course, the Chinese government did not approve of Google's decision and today Google finally took action.
