UPDATED 4/24: Google has said that the iPhone will not be getting its free Google Maps app to provide turn-by-turn GPS navigation. Crap.

Google has officially confirmed at a London press conference that it will bring free turn-by-turn GPS to the iPhone. It's currently working on such an app that will be provided by Google Maps. Currently, Google only has apps for their own Android mobile OS to provide free turn-by-turn.

This also may be an issue for competitors who are charging up to $100 just for enhanced navigation applications on the iPhone with turn-by-turn. No word has been announced as of now on the planned release of a Google Maps iPhone app.
