BREAKING: Twitter officially announced a great acquisition tonight on its official blog that it has worked out a deal with Atebits, maker of Tweetie and more recently, Tweetie 2, a popular iPhone app available for $2.99 in the app store. I am also a big fan of the app and have been satisfactorily using it for months now. Loren Brichter, owner of Atebits, will become a member of Twitter's mobile team.

On top of that, Tweetie will soon be renamed Twitter for iPhone and will be made completely free in the coming weeks. All you people that paid $2.99 for Tweetie and even better, paid another $2.99 when Tweetie 2 was released, well that's six bucks many other people soon will not be spending. But it's nice to see there's an official Twitter app out there for the iPhone. Tweetie was a great choice to acquire.
