Happy 5th Birthday YouTube!
Today, YouTube celebrates its fifth birthday. It all started in 2005 when three former PayPal employees created the now infamous video sharing site. Then in November 2006, Google clearly saw how much potential it had when Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion. It all went up hill from there and it was recently announced that two billion videos are being viewed on YouTube per day.
YouTube launched a new FiveYear campaign with different "My YouTube Stories" uploaded from users and the ability to upload your own. Plus, there's a timeline of some of the most popular viral videos since YouTube's launch. YouTube remains by far the most popular video sharing website on the internet. While Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance" music video has taken the title of the most viewed video, it's from Vevo, a separate video site that relies on official music videos.
