Slew of New Features Found in iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 3

With the latest version of iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 3 released just yesterday for registered developers, Boy Genius Report quickly loaded it up onto their devices and found quite a few great features that seem to be making their way into iPhone OS 4.0 or even the new iPhone hardware expected to come out next month at WWDC. A few of these new features are file sharing and rotation lock (currently on the iPad), plus more. Pictures are below.

Plugging in your iPhone and syncing with iTunes reveals a nice little option on the Apps page when you scroll down. It reveals File Sharing--a capability not yet found on the iPhone. According to the photo above, it will be coming soon.

Another handy feature is rotation lock. Popping open multitasking mode and swiping to the left reveals a rotation lock icon. When tapped, you can either lock portrait or landscape mode, disabling the accelerometer in the iPhone from turning the display of your device according to how you are holding it.

You'll also notice in the screenshot above some iPod controls. Swiping to the left in multitasking mode also revealed those iPod controls and can show the song title underneath where it currently says "Portrait Orientation Locked". There's also now a faster solution to closing opened apps.

UPDATED 7:24PM: Boy Genius Report has also found in the iPhone SDK an additional preset for video recording with a 1280x720 resolution. This very well may mean HD video recording could be coming to the next iPhone.
