Ultimate Tech Gift Guide for Graduates

Ultimate Tech Gift Guide for Graduates

Graduation season is almost here, and what better way to show appreciation for that special person in your life finally moving on, whether it be to college or getting a head start in the business world, than to buy him/her a juicy new gadget? In the following gift guide, you'll see a gadget for each of the following categories, all while keeping budget in mind. The categories are laptop, smartphone, television, and portable productivity. Let's begin.

Laptop
Apple 13" MacBook - $999

Some people might argue that it's the gorgeous design and hardware that make the MacBook a champion, but I personally think the iLife software really makes it. Everything from editing photos, movies, and music to making presentations and typing documents is done in a snap. Plus it's speedy and has a lightweight, 13.3" display. It even has a Boot Camp mode to have both Windows and Mac OS X installed. Available on apple.com, at Apple Retail Stores, or authorized resellers.

Smartphone
HTC Droid Incredible - $199

The HTC Droid Incredible is now the smartphone to beat on any carrier. While this bad boy is only available on Verizon, it comes packed with loads of features such as the popular Android OS plus HTC's Sense UI, 50,000 additional apps available for download, beautiful camera and video recording capabilities, and a snappy processor. It has a high resolution multi-touch display that enables you to browse the web, view photos, and more with ease. For the first time, the iPhone 3GS is falling behind. However, if you are a true Apple fanatic and don't mind a late grad gift, waiting for this year's new iPhone to be announced in early June might be worth it, as its rumored to smoke the competition. The HTC Droid Incredible is available for $199 with a two-year contract on Verizon and an additional unlimited monthly data plan.

Television
LG 26LE5300 - $499

Considering that this will probably be in a dorm room, we went with a more compact size, yet still big enough to be enjoyed. This 26" HDTV available at Best Buy has gotten great reviews. The best thing has to be the fact that it uses LED backlit technology, which creates a better picture all while keeping an extremely slim profile. Plus, this television's only $500 even with LED. It supports a 720p resolution and a plethora of inputs. The only thing it seems to lack is loud, quality audio. But if you're okay with fairly good audio, this TV may just be the TV for your little graduate. This LG is currently available at Best Buy online or in selected stores.

Portable Productivity
Apple iPad - Starting at $499

Most people would think portable productivity would be a netbook, but not necessarily. The Apple iPad touchscreen device can clearly be considered a hit in the eyes of hundreds of thousands of people. If you need a lightweight device that doesn't have to have the power of a laptop or even a netbook, but can just be great for entertainment, small work-related tasks, or internet services, the iPad is clearly for you. It views photos, watches movies, plays music, downloads over 200,000 apps, reads books, views maps, surfs the web, views emails, makes presentations and documents, and more on a gorgeous 9.7" multi-touch display. The iPad starts at $499 with WiFi only and goes all the way up to $829 with more storage and AT&T 3G. It's available now on apple.com, Apple Retail Stores, or authorized resellers.
