Google Kills the Nexus One

Google has decided to kill its signature Android phone, the Nexus One. The Nexus One was Google's attempt to partner up with HTC and make the hardware. They announced it at the very beginning of this year with a plan to take a different approach in selling it, selling it strictly online at google.com/phone exclusively with T-Mobile for $179. After reports of poor sales and poor marketing, the Nexus One was then taken offline and put into store shelves. That still clearly did not work, so as of today, the Nexus One has officially died. Google has received their very last shipment of Nexus Ones, out they will go, and then it's no more.

The Nexus One was actually a very good phone, and without it, T-Mobile doesn't have a very convincing lineup of smartphones. It was probably the first Android phone to ever be considered equal to the iPhone 3GS, and it had a sleek design -- except for that gruesome trackball below the gorgeous 3.7" AMOLED display. Plus, it was the first phone to receive the Android 2.2 update, which largely improved performance and added a couple of new features.

But for now we must say farewell to the Nexus One. With poor sales and poor marketing, you just couldn't pull through.
