YouTube Adds Support for 4K Resolution Video

YouTube today at VidCon 2010 announced that they would now support 4K resolution video which goes above and beyond HD with a resolution of 4096 x 3072 pixels, or 4096p, and also requires special cameras to shoot at such high quality. Clearly YouTube is ready for a very big future. They have put together a playlist of videos that were shot with 4K cameras where you can see the high quality video. Be warned, I'd recommend a good processor, at least 2GB memory, and a very fast broadband internet connection in order to actually play the video at more than two frames per second. And since 4096p is higher than any consumer monitor currently available, you probably won't be able to see much difference in quality between 4K and 1080p HD.
