Apple to Launch Social Network Based Support

Apple has announced on their Apple Discussions board that Apple Discussions will soon be evolving into Apple Support Communities. Members will be able to ask questions and post answers, plus read other questions and answers posted by fellow members. You'll be able to browse and search for any bit of information you are looking for. So, where does the social network come into all this?

Members will have their own home page with links to browse and search or post questions and answers. In addition, the home page will be fully customizable for changing preferences and adding widgets. You will also be able to create their own profile complete with a full biography and avatar image. And of course what is a good social network without the ability to invite friends to join?

On the other hand, Apple isn't calling this a social network. Instead, they seem to have chosen the word "community" but if you think about it, that's exactly what a social network is. You can read the full thread about Apple Support Communities here. The best release date we have so far is "very soon" so stick around.
