After months of coding away in almost complete silence, the Diaspora team has something brief to say:

We have been coding. We have Diaspora working, we like it, and it will be open-sourced on September 15th.

And there you have it! Diaspora will launch the source code on September 15th, just three weeks away. They then go on to say that because of the generous $200,000 raised on Kickstarter -- $190,000 above the original goal -- they've gotten to work with amazing designers and experts and are dedicated to making Diaspora a long term project.

I think we were all hoping for a screenshot in the blog post, but sadly that wasn't included. Another update is coming by September 15th.

When the Diaspora project was first launched, Facebook was in deep shit trouble about users' privacy. But now that most of those kinks have been work out, does Diaspora still have a shot?
