FREE Google and Verizon Tablet Due for the Holidays?

The rumors are pouring in for a tablet, but for once this year it's not about the Apple iPad. No, this year it's about a collaboration between Google and Verizon and rumor has it this very tablet may be free. Completely free? Of course not. But initially free, nonetheless. The supposed tablet device will run Google Chrome OS, which is also due for a release this holiday season. Google already announced the Chrome Web Store would be coming soon for apps on Google Chrome, but it may serve a substantial purpose if it were to make its way onto this Chrome OS tablet.

As for the "free" price tag, the swirling rumors tell us that the tablet may very well be free -- with a Verizon monthly data plan. There are already a few netbooks available for free with the purchase of a plan, but a tablet? If this turned out to be true, it could pose a serious threat to Apple's iPad which currently runs for $499 all the way up to $829. There are also leaked specs of a webcam in this tablet, something the iPad also currently lacks. It is worth noting, however, that the iPad is due for a webcam at its next refresh in order to utilize Apple's new FaceTime video calling feature.
