CanalMX is reporting that Apple may be working on a new antenna design for the iPhone 4 that would alleviate issues with the "death grip". As of now, the iPhone 4's problems can be solved simply by using a case. Apple currently offers a case program that allows any iPhone 4 customer to download the free app and choose one of eight free cases available to be sent out should they choose to download the app.

That current program expires on September 30th, just one month away. At the July 17th press conference, Steve Jobs had said the only reason for this expiration date was so Apple could investigate the matter more and provide a better solution should they come up with one by then.

If Apple were to sell an iPhone 4 with a redesigned antenna, most likely they would allow anyone who previously purchased an iPhone 4 to return it and get the new version for free.
