What to Expect at Apple's Music Event 2010

As always, before every Apple event, Bitts does a list with one-star to five-star ratings on what is highly expected and least expected at the upcoming event. This time around, it happens to be Apple's music event this Wednesday, September 1st at 10am pacific time. Let's take a look.

New iPod Touch with FaceTime, Retina Display - ★★★★★
This is almost guaranteed. The iPhone 4 got FaceTime video calling and the 960x640 IPS "retina" display, so why not iPod Touch?

iTunes 10 - ★★★★★
It's no surprise that every year Apple releases a new version of iTunes. This year is time for iTunes 10.0, the big two digits. Hopefully we'll see "cloud" music along with a revamped interface. Seriously, the current one has got to go. The fact that the iTunes Store is no more prominent than Genius in the sidebar still bugs me.

$99 iTV (Apple TV) with Applications - ★★★★
This has certainly been pretty speculative over the last month or so, and it continues to grow stronger. The current Apple TV is sold for $229 but offers limited functionality and is even considered as just a hobby for Apple. This new $99 iTV could bring iOS applications to the television with a magic wand remote and smaller hard drive.

iOS 4.1 with Game Center - ★★★★
Last year Steve Jobs quickly unveiled some brief new features coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch in iOS 3.1, so this year could very well be time for iOS 4.1 with Game Center, Apple's Xbox Live for iOS, if you will. This was promised way back in April and hasn't been spoken about since. I think it's time.

iPod nano with 1.7" Touchscreen - ★★★
A lot of folks have been talking about this recently, but there's still something that baffles me about the iPod nano having that small of a touchscreen. It would barely be of any use, unless Apple finds out some way to take advantage of a small screen. They probably could, but I'm still skeptical for now.

Discontinuation of iPod classic - ★★
It's somewhat possible, but as Phil Schiller mentioned last year, there are still many people that appreciate the iPod classic simply because it's capable of holding a 160GB hard drive. If the rumors are true about the touchscreen iPod nano, it seems as though Apple may be trying to kill the click wheel.

3G-Enabled iPod Touch -
One of the most recent rumors, it's most likely not going to happen. Why buy a 3G iPod Touch when you could just buy an iPhone? Sure there's less monthly fees, but then it would be almost as if the iPod Touch were competing with the iPhone. Should I even mention more strain on AT&T's network?
