Apple Officially Discontinues iPhone 4 Case Program September 30
Today, Apple updated their case program site to include a paragraph stating what exactly will happen on September 30th. We already knew in July that Apple would discontinue their free case program on September 30th so they could hopefully provide a better solution, but for now it appears that no other solution is coming. The paragraph reads:
We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.
It appears that once all the hype in the media about the iPhone 4 issues calmed down, so did the people. What's interesting is that the paragraph states at the end that anyone with remaining issues should call AppleCare for a free Bumper case, and it may be possible that after September 30th, only users who have purchased an AppleCare plan will be able to qualify for a free case should they need one.
Hopefully we'll hear a bit more from Apple at the end of this month.
