Skype 5.0 Launches with Group Video Calls, Facebook Connect
A couple of weeks ago, All Things Digital reported that Skype was readying to announce a partnership with Facebook to bring your news feed and other content onto the Skype client. They were right. Today Skype announced the final release of version 5.0. The main features in this release are group video calling support (finally) and Facebook integration.
With group calling, you'll be able to have a video chat with multiple friends at once. Unfortunately, this is still in beta and it's only a free trial. Soon Skype will launch this as a premium feature, which really sucks.
Facebook integration will let you see your news feed, post statuses, comment and like other posts, and call/SMS friends directly from Skype. You'll also be able to call or video call any Facebook friends that also have a Skype account.
To view all the new features in more detail, Skype graciously filmed this brief tutorial.
