Google Officially Launches Chrome OS, Chrome Web Store

At Google's Chrome event, Google took the time to officially announce the launch of Google Chrome OS. After initially being announced over a year ago, it's finally here. Admittedly though, it isn't done yet. More on that in a moment. Chrome OS will look ridiculously like the Google Chrome web browser, except that the browser will actually be most of the operating system. It's made mainly for netbooks, so it will feature tons of web apps, fast boot times, cloud storage, and auto-updates. Plus it will come with WiFi and -- here's something new -- built in 3G and 100MB of free 3G data from Verizon each month for two years.

As stated before, Chrome OS isn't done yet. In order to solve this, Google has built the Cr-48 12-inch netbook running Chrome OS. It will be available to developers and early adopters who apply to help put the fit and finish on the OS. You can apply for the netbook here.

Google is also readying the launch of its Chrome Web Store. Put simply, it's an app store for your web browser.  You can learn more about that here. It will begin rolling out later today in the U.S.
