Just to Clarify the Name
There has been a common confusion ever since I first started Bitts on December 1, 2009. That confusion has been around the name of the site. Unfortunately, probably 80% of our readers go by the name on the Facebook, Twitter, or Digg account and the domain name which is "techbitts". The name of the website is in fact just Bitts. Let me clarify.
When I went to purchase the domain name in November of 2009, bitts.com as you could imagine was taken. When I contacted the registrants, they wanted about $20,000. I'm not paying that. So I decided to go with a domain name that I hoped would reflect what the website was about. Techbitts.com was born. Then, I tried creating the Twitter account. The username "bitts" was taken. So to keep in line with the domain name, I went with "techbitts". Then upon creating the Facebook and Digg pages, I kept those in line with the Twitter account. So "techbitts" spread a lot more quickly than I had hoped.
I noticed that a lot of websites that quote articles on Bitts or link to them tend to credit the source as "techbitts". While it's a pretty obvious misconception by now, the name of the website is officially Bitts. If you're ever confused, just look at the logo or the title of the page. It's not a problem if the site is referred to as TechBitts, but I thought it was in everyone's best interest for the name to be clarified. As for the meaning behind the name, well that will come in a future article...
And yes, the logo above was intentionally made extra large for this article.
