Apple to Hold Event Next Week to Unveil iPad 2?
A German Apple rumor website is suggesting that Apple is planning to hold, or at the very least announce, an event next week that will unveil the second-generation iPad. According to them:
A release date between 2nd and 9th April seems quite likely, sources – not only ours – pointed to a release in early April. The only question is: When will the iPad 2 be presented? One manufacturer of iPad accessoires now told us Apple is planning on holding an event next week. Our guess is Apple will present the iPad 2 as a “One more thing” during a special iOS 4.3 developer event next week. iOS 4.3 is still a beta, Apple released the third beta on Tuesday. It still contains critical bugs, but might be released soon as soon as all the bugs are fixed.
The only thing I disagree with is the iPad 2 being announced as a "one more thing". iPad has quickly become one of Apple's signature products and it's unlikely they would push it under the "one more thing" category. It also seems very odd that Apple would hold an iOS 4.3 developer event. The only time they ever hold keynotes for iOS is once every year in March or April to give developers a look at the next major release.
Whether or not iPad 2 is coming next week, we're pretty sure that it's coming very soon. iOS 4.3 is almost certainly going to be the version of iOS that iPad 2 will initially ship with and Apple is cranking out betas for 4.3 like hot cakes.
