Verizon Takes the Joy Out of Unlimited Data Plans, Throttles Data Speeds for Heavy Users

In order to maintain the quality and performance of the network, Verizon has decided that it will lower the data speeds of the heaviest data users on the network. This will be determined by whoever is in the top 5% each month. Others are reporting this restriction will be added if you use more than 2GB of data per month. It's currently unknown how much your speed will decrease.

Verizon says this decision was made to keep the majority of their customers happy with the network. In other words, this is one step toward not becoming the next AT&T. There is still a large chance that the swarm of new customers purchasing an iPhone will negatively affect the network. It's important to know that Verizon's network is already generally slower than AT&T's.
