Sony Ericsson Finally Confirms Xperia Play "PlayStation Phone"
After a laughable amount of rumors, Sony Ericsson has finally come through at Mobile World Congress today to unveil the Xperia Play phone that so many have been calling the PlayStation phone. It will have a 4-inch display and will be one of the first phones to finally run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Slide it open and you'll find not a keyboard, but a full set of gaming controls. Games that take advantage of these controls can be downloaded via a special Sony Ericsson store available on the phone. Regular Android Market apps can be downloaded as well.
I foresee the Xperia Play selling very well with advanced gamers who have been waiting for their portable gaming device and smartphone to merge. It may fall flat with regular consumers who find the Android Market's selection of games to be more than enough of an entertainment factor on their phones.
