Microsoft Kills the Zune

Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft has officially killed the Zune. The company will stop introducing new versions of it from here on out. The Zune was introduced by Microsoft in 2006 to compete with Apple's popular iPod, but failed to claim any significant market share. It has always been fairly well known, but more so in the way of "Have you heard of the Zune? Yeah, but I'm not buying it." The design is pretty sleek, albeit it looks like a metal block.

Instead of selling the Zune, Microsoft will put their focus more on adding Zune software to other devices such as Windows Phone 7 smartphones for playing music and syncing the library from a PC. Microsoft declined to comment on the matter.
