Has the iPhone 5 Been Pushed Back to October?
Rumors are circulating today that an AT&T representative supposedly had an exclusive chat with a few big guys at Apple that said the iPhone 5 would not be released until October. For quite a while now, the media has been pinpointing September as the release date. Still, the iPhone 5 could be announced in September at the annual iPod event and ship in October to fit in with this new rumor. I wouldn't take this too seriously though.
The cause for the delay? Apple -- again, supposedly -- wants to keep sales for the white iPhone 4 strong, since that just debuted at the end of April. So the many that have been banking on Apple's usual summer refresh cycle will have to wait a bit longer this year. There is some good news though. WWDC2011 begins June 6th, and you can bet we will hear all about iOS 5 with some great new features and improvements coming to the iPhone. Also, if you're a 4G buff, the iPhone 5 will probably not have this capability in order to preserve battery life. Apple will have to clearly state their case on this one since 4G is emerging quickly.
And just one last tidbit. Notice how I'm hesitant to call the iPhone 5 the rumored name of '4S'. It just sounds dumb. Plus, I was hoping that starting with the iPhone 4, Apple was done tacking on additional letters to the name with each generation.
