Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer slipped news that the update for Windows Phone 7 tomorrow dubbed "Mango" will bring over 500 features to the operating system. This announcement comes just a day before the event, so it's fairly odd timing, but it's likely to prevent gadget nerds (even if just a few) from sleeping well tonight.

Engadget has confirmed that the event will be based on software entirely. No new WP7 smartphones are expected to be unveiled. In addition, 500 features doesnt necessarily mean "500 FEATURES!!!" in the way we all like to think. Apple often boasts 100 or 200 new features in a software update, and while some can be huge like multitasking, others might be as small as support for YouTube subscriptions. With 500, there is almost certainly going to be a cluster of small features that no one cares about. Perhaps the nerds will sleep after all.
