Apple Tablet and iPhone: FAQs

Apple Tablet and iPhone: FAQs

Since there seems to be a lot of unanswered questions or confused responses to certain rumors, here's a list of frequently asked questions and the correct answers to alleviate all the questions about the Apple Tablet, iPhone OS 4.0, and anything about the Apple event next week.

Q: What is exactly is rumored and what is confirmed?
A: Well, it's confirmed that Apple will host an event on Wednesday, January 27th in San Francisco. The slogan was "Come see our new creation" which basically means a new product. The Apple tablet is simply a rumor, it has not been confirmed yet, but it is highly expected that it will be that new product on Wednesday. iPhone OS 4.0 is a recent rumor with any specifications seen for it also being rumors. It is rumored that Apple will unveil the PLANS for the new software update to iPhone at the event, not actually make it available.

Q: What's the difference between iPhone 4.0 and the 4th version of the iPhone device itself?
A: iPhone OS 4.0 refers to the operating system firmware on the iPhone. The operating system is what enables all the features it currently has, and it allows it to run. The new iPhones are new devices themselves, not new software. They could have a different design, a better camera, or faster insides. Plus, sometimes, Apple specializes certain operating system features just for the new devices. They usually release a new version of the OS along with a new version of the device in June, but they unveil plans for the OS months before.

Q: There's the Apple Tablet right there! (see right) Why are there still questions and rumors?
A: Please know that any "Apple Tablet" images you may see are just concept designs made by artists or graphic designers. They are not real. They are only what is imagined to be the Apple Tablet. If and when a tablet is confirmed on the 27th, then the real images will come out.

Q: I heard the iPhone is coming on Verizon. True or false?
A: As of now, false. Once again, these are just rumors, and Apple doesn't comment on rumors. They are very secretive about what they do until the day they decide to announce/confirm it. There is speculation that the exclusivity contract ends with AT&T soon, at which point it may go on Verizon. But unless Apple was making a different iPhone device to be compatible with Verizon's network because AT&T and Verizon have different types of their wireless network, then as of now, it isn't coming onto Verizon.

Q: I heard they are making an "iPhone Lite". True or false?
A: Also false. I highly doubt that Apple will ever make a second version of the iPhone. While I could be wrong, Apple revolves around simplicity. Just like they have one solid Mac OS X operating system instead of Mac OS X Home Premium and Professional, I doubt they will make different editions of the iPhone.

If there are any questions I am missing that you may be confused about, please post in the comments below and I'll update this post as soon as I can.
