Google Services Stop Compatibility for IE6

Google Services Stop Compatibility for IE6

Google has announced that starting on March 1st, 2010, both Google Docs and Google Sites will no longer be compatible with Internet Explorer 6.0, which now has the popular phrase of "IE6 Must Die". They state that the web has evolved, and older web browsers cannot support new functionality, so it cannot be implemented while keeping IE6 in mind.

So, joining the long list of other websites that no longer support Internet Explorer 6, Google will slowly begin that starting with those two services. It is expected that more services will phase out support for the browser as well over the course of the year. If you visit YouTube on IE6, you'll notice the message to upgrade your browser as well.

On top of that, IE6 has major security issues and that was one of its main criticisms from its very launch. So being an almost decade-old browser with security issues and little ability to support today's modern websites, why do people still use it? They either aren't aware of an updated version to the browser (or other separate browsers, I recommend Google Chrome 4.0) or they know about it, but don't want to waste the time to upgrade -- companies included. So maybe Google will be the changing factor to finally kill IE6.
