Apple Sues HTC for Android Patent Infringements
Apple has dropped a huge bomb on HTC this morning by suing them for infringing on 20 of Apple's patents involving the architecture of the iPhone, user interface, and hardware. So this is an iPhone deal. Not only that, but it appears that Apple is calling out specifically, Android phones manufactured by HTC. We all know Android is Google's own smartphone operating system that has risen in popularity recently. We also all know about Google and Apple's increasing, dramatic war.
Gizmodo reports:
Apple's asking for a permanent injunction, which would bar HTC from importing or selling phones here that use these patents, along with triple damages with maximum interest (read: a lot of money). As you can see, some of the patents are fairly broad, like "unlocking a device by performing gestures on an unlock image," which seems to cover like every touchscreen phone ever. Here's a gallery of the full suit, followed by a breakout of the patents. Notably not among them? Anything pertaining to multitouch.HTC has reported that they continue to innovate and have not received any papers on Apple's lawsuit, so they cannot fully comment. Is this an HTC issue or an Android issue? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop? The world may never know.
