IE9 Details Revealed - XP Support is Gone

Today at MIX10 conference, Microsoft announced further details of Internet Explorer 9, the next version of the widely used but widely hated Internet Explorer web browser. These are extremely early details, but they give us a preview of what is to expect.

Microsoft says that Internet Explorer 9 will certainly catch up on performance with all the other browsers, as we know IE8 is far behind. It will also have new technologies built in. They demoed new border options on web pages and all the different possibilities for shapes and graphics now supported by the browser. They also showed HTML5 working in the browser using the video tag. When they compared it with Chrome, apparently Chrome was hogging up more of the computer while IE9 left plenty of space left when playing the video.

Finally, Microsoft said "Building a modern browser requires a modern operating system" and then followed it up with the fact that Internet Explorer 9 will not run on Windows XP. It will run on Vista and 7 only. It's about time Microsoft started moving away from Windows XP, their nine year old operating system.

They released a small developer preview of the browser, but it's in its prime. There's hardly any controls, no back button. It's just to show developers what is "under the hood" and what will be coming, whenever it debuts.
