Nintendo 3DS Promises 3D Gaming Without Glasses

Nintendo announced recently a new device that is expected to ship within one year which they are calling the Nintendo 3DS, the successor to the current Nintendo DS (even more specific, the DSi). Nintendo is being very tight-lipped, but right now all they are saying is the new device will be able to produce 3D images without the use of special glasses, something that even 3D TVs cannot yet pull off. For now, Nintendo says more details will be announced at this year's E3 conference in June.

While nothing is confirmed, sources say they have a few added details. First off, its looking like the same dual display as before, except now they will be 4" each. Also, Nintendo might use parallax barrier technology in the LCD displays, which are about double the price of regular LCDs and have multiple layers which produces different images for the right and left eye, creating a 3D illusion. It can also be assumed that the price of this DS will probably be a bit higher than previous models.

That's all we know for now. If Nintendo is able to pull this off, expect competition to skyrocket.
