Apple Confirms AT&T iPhone Exclusivity Until 2012

BREAKING: After a lawsuit was filed back in 2007 claiming Apple and AT&T formed a monopoly over selling the iPhone exclusively on AT&T, Apple had no choice but to put on record the terms of their deal. Apple filed for a 5-year deal back in 2007, meaning that AT&T will be the exclusive provider until 2012. Looks like an iPhone on Verizon or any other network, is almost certainly a no.

Apple has a quote which was so graciously edited a bit for better understanding by Engadget that actually was quoted way back in 2008:

"The duration of the exclusive Apple-[AT&T] agreement was not 'secret' either. The [plaintiff] quotes a May 21, 2007 USA Today article – published over a month before the iPhone's release – stating, "AT&T has exclusive U.S. distribution rights for five years-an eternity in the go-go cellphone world."
"[T]here was widespread disclosure of [AT&T's] five-year exclusivity and no suggestion by Apple or anyone else that iPhones would become unlocked after two years... Moreover, it is sheer speculation – and illogical – that failing to disclose the five-year exclusivity term would produce monopoly power..."
It appears the only thing that could possibly build up a wall between Apple and AT&T's agreement if is the lawsuit isn't ruled in their favor. Sad news for Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon lovers... looks like Android's the way to go for you folks!
