Changes to the Bitts Follow Friday Tradition on Twitter
I'd like to announce some changes that will be coming starting this Friday to our Twitter account, now with over 1300 followers. Normally, as you may know, on Follow Friday, Bitts thanks everyone that mentions us in the #FF hashtag, or anyone that retweets any articles over the course of the week. As Bitts grows in popularity, challenges arise as to how to do this rationally. So hopefully, the following changes well help solve some of these issues.
The issue is since a tweet only allows for 140 characters, and there are way more usernames than what fit in 140 characters. As a result, we've been having to post multiple tweets to fit in everyone's username. While we are thankful for all those who retweet, this method can "flood" home pages and cause new followers to think we're spamming. On top of that, putting a bunch of names in a tweet and telling people to follow them isn't really that effective, and it almost never happens. So, in order to hopefully drive more followers to each individual person without the hassle of flooding home pages with multiple #FF tweets, we will be using a new Follow Friday method.
Starting this Friday (5/21), instead of posting a bunch of names, we will at random choose one person that retweeted over the course of the week (the more you retweet, the better chance you have) and put their name in a single tweet for Follow Friday along with their short "Bio" that appears on the sidebar of their Twitter profile. This way, it gives our followers some insight on a specific individual and increases the chances of following them.
Thank you tremendously to all those who share our articles. Now, instead of giving a brief thank you to so many of you at once on Follow Friday, we can slowly but surely give a better symbol of appreciation to all of you individually.
