Microsoft Pulls the Plug on the Kin

BREAKING: Sources close to Microsoft have told Gizmodo that Microsoft is officially pulling the plug on the Kin. The main reason would be extremely poor sales. Reports rumored that Microsoft had only sold about 500 Kin phones. Another reason is the price. The price was recently dropped to $29.99 and $49.99 for the Kin One and Two but for the target demographic of teens and twenty-somethings, monthly unlimited data fees were simply too high. After just a few months since its launch, the Kin is dead.

My own personal opinion on the matter is since the Kin has a focus for lifecasters and people that update their statuses constantly, anybody that actually buys the phone knows that other people would probably find it odd to have a phone that keeps you so ridiculously connected to everything all the time. Just a guess, but first and foremost is probably price.

Microsoft had an official statement on the matter as well:
We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.
R.I.P. Project "Pink".
