Apple Developing Ad-Supported Operating System?
A patent reveals Apple's possible plans to create a version of Mac OS X that would be ad supported. This would work by displaying an ad at timed intervals during computer use and when this ad is displayed, the operating system would be able to disable certain functions on the computer until the ad is complete. The benefit from this is being able to obtain the operating system for a discounted price or even free.
A drop down menu from the menu bar would also allow to watch an ad on demand or delay an ad for ten minutes. This type of operating system would work well in public areas with computer access so a user does not have to pay a fee, but can choose to if they find the advertisements counterproductive, as I imagine many would.
It seems that maybe iAd isn't the only advertising platform Apple has up its sleeve.
