Consumer Reports Still Not Recommending iPhone 4? Bullshit.

If you are a living, breathing human being, you have probably heard by now that Consumer Reports can't recommend iPhone 4 mainly because of what they consider a design flaw in the iPhone 4, that being the antenna issues. They thought it would be best for Apple to take action and decided that giving away free Bumper cases would alleviate the problem, because in their testing it did. So, today at Apple's press conference, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would now be giving away free Bumper cases (and others) to all iPhone 4 users. Guess what? Consumer Reports still won't recommend the Apple iPhone 4. Absolute bullshit.

How can you possibly not recommend the iPhone 4? You said it yourself, Consumer Reports, that it is your highest rated smartphone. How can it not be recommended? If Apple's data is to be believed, all the other smartphones have the exact same issue. The only reason why Consumer Reports tested the iPhone 4 for the antenna issue is because of its publicity recently. If an iPhone 4 is tested for a "death grip", every single other smartphone should go through that exact same testing. On top of that, the iPhone 4 issue is in fact overblown simply because there's a line where the issue occurs. If there was no line, it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

That's not the only thing that pisses me off. What really gets me going is the fact that Consumer Reports actually suggested that Apple give away free bumpers to take care of the issue. Now Apple is giving away free bumpers and you are slapping them in the face by still not being able to recommend it. The iPhone 3G and 3GS can reproduce the exact same problem and yet they are on your recommended list. It's clearly not a design flaw as you morons call it if it can be reproduced on many other smartphones, including many not manufactured by Apple.

We don't need Consumer Reports to tell us what to buy anymore. I think it's very clear that the iPhone 4 is a superb product and if Consumer Reports can't recommend iPhone 4, well then maybe we just can't recommend Consumer Reports. I am being critical because I need to be. What's even better is the fact that I've yet to see a single comment on their latest article regarding these problems that is positive about CR, with many readers threatening to stop reading CR altogether.

I try to be as fair as possible when judging a new product and Consumer Reports is completely unfair. Some may call me biased for being this defensive of the iPhone 4. It's not biased, it's standing up for what is fair and unfair. So there is my rant on Consumer Reports. In the eyes of many, they have lost a ton of credibility just for this one single flop.

Update (2/15/11): Consumer Reports chooses not to recommend the Verizon iPhone 4 -- their highest rated smartphone -- either because apparently people haven't noticed that the Verizon iPhone 4 also has antenna issues because Verizon's network is better than AT&T. This news confirms my theory that these people are idiots.
